Course Description:
This course is designed to provide general dental practitioners and specialists with in-depth knowledge of the diagnosis, treatment, and multidisciplinary management of head and neck cancers. The symposium, which is provided by the Department of Otolaryngology and Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital, will feature expert-led lectures and panel discussions on cutting-edge advancements, including innovations in the treatment of oral cancers, updates on HPV-related cancers and the emerging role of next-generation precision medicine testing in early detection and treatment planning. Attendees will gain valuable insights into how these advancements impact clinical practice, equipping them with the knowledge to enhance early detection, improve patient referrals, and contribute to better treatment outcomes.
Lecture Objectives:
At the completion of the course participants will be able to:
-Recognize the clinical presentation and diagnostic techniques used for early detection.
-Explore contemporary surgical and non-surgical treatment options, including reconstructive strategies.
-Understand the latest advancements in oral cavity cancer, recognize the evolving role of HPV in head and neck cancers and explore next-generation circulating DNA testing and its potential.
-Discuss the role of a multidisciplinary team in comprehensive patient care.
-Identify key clinical signs and symptoms for early referral to specialists.
-Discuss how general dental practitioners can play a critical role in early diagnosis and interdisciplinary patient care.
-Examine strategies to integrate new knowledge into routine dental practice for improved patient outcomes.
